Yuan Yue stuns top seed Halep in Hong Kong first round, Bouzkova progresses in Jiangxi
World No.114 Yuan Yue upset top seed Simona Halep in the first round of the Hong Kong Tennis Open on Tuesday. The Chinese player saved two match points in the second set before prevailing 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 49 minutes. Yuan raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening set and never looked back, breaking Halep's serve twice more to take the opener. The second set was a closer affair, with both players trading breaks. Halep had two match points at 5-4, but Yuan saved both and broke back to level the set. The Chinese player then held her serve to force a tiebreak, and she won four of the first five points to eventually seal the victory.
In other action at the Hong Kong Tennis Open, second seed Dayana Yastremska defeated Magdalena Frech 6-3, 6-2, while third seed Alizé Cornet beat Zhu Lin 6-2, 6-2. Fourth seed Anna Bondár also advanced, overcoming Xinyu Wang 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Bouzkova kicks off Jiangxi title defence with straight-sets win over Marino, Linette and Blinkova advance
Defending champion Marie Bouzkova began her Jiangxi Open title defence with a routine 6-3, 6-2 victory over Rebecca Marino in the first round on Tuesday. Bouzkova, who is seeded second in the tournament, broke Marino's serve three times in the first set and twice in the second set to wrap up the win in one hour and 12 minutes. The Czech player will face Xinyu Wang in the second round.
In other action at the Jiangxi Open, fifth seed Magdalena Linette defeated Kyoka Okamura 6-1, 6-3, while eighth seed Anastasia Blinkova beat Moyuka Uchijima 6-1, 6-2. Fourth seed Xinyu Wang also advanced, overcoming qualifier Lina Glushko 6-4, 6-2.
