Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev smashes his racket on the court during the Astana Open
Rublev's outburst comes after a string of poor results
The Russian has won just one of his last five matches
Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev has been fined $20,000 for smashing his racket on the court during the Astana Open.
The incident occurred during Rublev's second-round match against Emil Ruusuvuori. Rublev lost the first set 6-3 and was trailing 5-2 in the second set when he smashed his racket on the court.
The chair umpire immediately gave Rublev a code violation and fined him a point. Rublev then went on to lose the match 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
This is not the first time that Rublev has been fined for smashing his racket. In 2021, he was fined $20,000 for the same offense at the Australian Open.
Rublev's outburst comes after a string of poor results. The Russian has won just one of his last five matches and has dropped out of the top 10 in the world rankings.
It is unclear what the future holds for Rublev. He is still a young player with a lot of potential, but he needs to find a way to control his emotions on the court.
