Tomoyuki Sugano Resigns as President of All Nippon Airways
All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan's largest airline, announced today that its president, Tomoyuki Sugano, has resigned.
Sugano, 62, has been president of ANA since 2015. He will be replaced by Shinya Katanozaka, who is currently the airline's executive vice president.
Sugano's resignation comes as ANA is facing a number of challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the airline industry.
ANA has been hit hard by the pandemic, with its international passenger traffic falling by more than 90% in 2020. The airline has also been forced to cancel or reduce flights on many domestic routes.
In addition to the pandemic, ANA is also facing competition from low-cost carriers and from other airlines in the Asia-Pacific region.
Sugano's resignation is seen as a sign that ANA is looking to make changes in order to address these challenges. Katanozaka, who has been with ANA for more than 30 years, is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the airline.
Katanozaka takes over as president of ANA at a time when the airline industry is facing a number of challenges.
However, he is confident that ANA can overcome these challenges and continue to be a leading airline in the Asia-Pacific region.
