Carlos Carrasco Plans To Continue Pitching
Carrasco enjoying Mets run, plans to pitch past 2023 contract
Mets' Carlos Carrasco says he has no plans of retiring in 2023 when his contract expires.
Mets fans won't have to worry about whether they've seen the last of Carlos Carrasco in a Mets uniform beyond 2023.
Despite the 35-year-old right-hander entering the final year of a four-year, $88 million contract with the Mets, Carrasco said he has no plans of retiring when the contract expires.
“I feel young, man,” Carrasco said. “I feel like I can pitch for a long time. My arm feels great. My body feels great. So, I’m not thinking about retiring right now or nothing like that. As long as I can pitch and help my team win, I’m going to be out there pitching.”
Carrasco’s comments are certainly encouraging for the Mets, who have seen the veteran pitcher turn into one of their most reliable starters this season.
In 28 starts this season, Carrasco has a 3.92 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 153 strikeouts in 160.1 innings pitched.
He has also been a key part of the Mets’ rotation, which has helped the team to a 91-56 record, the best in the National League.
Carrasco’s success this season is a testament to his durability and effectiveness, which is why the Mets would be wise to keep him around beyond 2023.
If Carrasco can continue to pitch at a high level, he would be a valuable asset to the Mets, who will be looking to compete for a World Series title in 2024 and beyond.
So, while Carrasco’s future beyond 2023 is uncertain, it’s clear that he still has a lot to offer the Mets.
And, if he has his way, he’ll be pitching in Queens for many years to come.
