WordPress Creator Makes a Big Donation to Fund WordCamps

WordPress.com Donated $5,000 to WCEU 2023

Matt Mullenweg, the co-founder of WordPress, announced the donation on Twitter. He said that the donation was made to help support the WordCamp Europe event, which is scheduled to be held in Porto, Portugal, from June 15-17, 2023.

Donation to Support Contributor Day

The donation will be used to support Contributor Day, which is a day-long event that takes place before WordCamp Europe. Contributor Day is an opportunity for people to contribute to WordPress in a variety of ways, such as writing documentation, translating WordPress into other languages, and testing new features.

Mullenweg said that he is a big believer in Contributor Day and that he is grateful to WordPress.com for their support.

Previous Donations

This is not the first time that WordPress.com has donated to WordCamps. In 2022, WordPress.com donated $10,000 to WordCamp US and $5,000 to WordCamp Europe.

These donations are a testament to WordPress.com's commitment to the WordPress community. WordPress.com is a for-profit company, but they have always been generous in their support of the open-source WordPress project.

WordCamps are Important

WordCamps are important events for the WordPress community. They provide an opportunity for people to learn about WordPress, meet other WordPress users, and contribute to the project.

Contributor Day is a particularly important event because it gives people a chance to give back to the WordPress community.
