USA secure nail-biting win over Nepal

An extra-time header from Walker Zimmerman proved decisive as the United States edged Nepal 1-0 in a friendly in Kathmandu on Sunday

The Americans, ranked 21st in the world, controlled possession throughout the 90 minutes but were unable to find a way past a resolute Nepalese defence until the 101st minute

Christian Pulisic had the best chance of the first half for the USA, but his shot from inside the area was well saved by Nepal goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong.

Nepal had a couple of good chances to take the lead in the second half, but Bimal Gharti Magar and Anjan Bista both failed to hit the target from promising positions.

Zimmerman finally broke the deadlock in the 101st minute, heading home a cross from Paul Arriola.

The win was a good one for the USA, who are preparing for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in June.

Nepal, ranked 173rd in the world, gave a good account of themselves against a much higher-ranked opponent.

The match was played in front of a sell-out crowd at the Dasarath Rangasala Stadium.
