Typhoon Goni Makes Landfall in Taiwan, Bringing Torrential Rain and Strong Winds

Powerful typhoon brings heavy rainfall and severe flooding across northern Taiwan
Taipei, Taiwan - Typhoon Goni, a powerful Category 5 storm, made landfall in Taiwan on Saturday, bringing torrential rain and strong winds that have caused widespread flooding and damage across the island. The storm, which is the strongest to hit Taiwan in decades, has already claimed at least 10 lives as it lashes the island with heavy rain and strong winds.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a red alert for Typhoon Goni on Friday, warning that the storm could bring winds of up to 220 kilometers per hour (140 miles per hour) and torrential rainfall to the island. The storm made landfall in the northern county of Yilan on Saturday morning, bringing with it heavy rain and strong winds that have caused widespread flooding and damage.
The CWA has warned that the storm is expected to continue to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Taiwan throughout the weekend, with the worst of the weather expected to hit the northern part of the island.
