Thiaw says Milan are ‘ready’ for Napoli and defend more ‘as a unit’ under Fonseca

Milan defender Malick Thiaw has revealed the Rossoneri are 'ready' to face Napoli

Speaking ahead of Sunday's Serie A clash, the German centre-back admitted the Partenopei are a 'very strong' side, but believes Milan have the quality to get a result.

"Napoli are a very strong team, but we are ready for them," Thiaw told Milan TV.

"We have been working hard in training and we are confident that we can get a good result."

Thiaw has also praised the impact of new coach Paulo Fonseca, who has overseen a defensive improvement since taking charge in October.

"Fonseca has brought a lot of changes to the team, but the most important thing is that we are now defending more as a unit," he added.

"We are more compact and we are conceding fewer goals. This is giving us a solid foundation to build on.

"I am very happy with the way things are going under Fonseca. I think we are moving in the right direction and I am excited for the future."

Milan are currently fifth in Serie A, 12 points behind leaders Napoli.

However, Thiaw believes the Rossoneri can still challenge for the title if they maintain their current form.

"We have a lot of quality in this team and we are all determined to achieve something special this season," he said.

"We know it will be difficult, but we are up for the challenge. We are Milan and we never give up."

Thiaw joined Milan from Schalke in the summer of 2022.

The 21-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Rossoneri in all competitions this season, scoring one goal.

He has quickly established himself as a key member of the team and is expected to play a major role in Milan's bid for success this season.
