Incident Summary

On May 27, 2023, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Atlanta Police Department (APD) responded to a 911 call regarding a barricaded suspect at the Midtown Hotel on Peachtree Street.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a 32-year-old male suspect, later identified as John Doe, armed with multiple weapons. Doe refused to comply with officers' commands and fired over 15 rounds from an assault rifle and a handgun.

APD is currently investigating the incident and has charged Doe with aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and reckless conduct.

APD Chief Erika Shields commended the officers involved for their bravery and professionalism in handling a dangerous situation.

"Our officers put their lives on the line to protect the public, and we are grateful that no one was seriously injured," said Chief Shields.
