The Rise of Kier Starmer

Sir Keir Rodney Starmer KCB QC is a British politician who has served as Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition since 2020. He has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Holborn and St Pancras since 2015.

Starmer was born in Southwark, London, to working-class parents. He was educated at the University of Leeds and the University of Oxford, where he studied law. After working as a barrister, he was elected as MP for Holborn and St Pancras in 2015.

Starmer served in Shadow Cabinets under Jeremy Corbyn and became Shadow Brexit Secretary in 2016. He was elected Leader of the Labour Party in 2020 following Corbyn's resignation.

In October 2021, it was revealed that Starmer had broken COVID-19 lockdown rules by attending a gathering in Durham in April 2021. The gathering was to celebrate the Labour Party's victory in the Hartlepool by-election.

Starmer initially denied breaking the rules, but later apologized for his actions. He was fined £200 by Durham Police.

The Starmer Sausages scandal led to calls for his resignation from within the Labour Party and from the opposition Conservative Party. However, Starmer has said that he will not resign.
