Shohei Ohtani Wins World Series MVP as Los Angeles Dodgers Defeat New York Yankees in Six Games

Los Angeles Dodgers Win First World Series Title Since 1988

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 4-2 in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday night to win their first World Series title since 1988. Shohei Ohtani was named the World Series MVP after hitting three home runs and driving in seven runs in the series.

Ohtani's Historic Performance

Ohtani became the first player in MLB history to hit three home runs in a World Series game since Hideki Matsui in 2009. He also became the first player to hit a home run from both sides of the plate in a World Series game since Babe Ruth in 1926.

Ohtani's performance was even more impressive considering that he was also the Dodgers' starting pitcher in Game 1 of the World Series. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits, and striking out nine batters.

Dodgers' Comeback Victory

The Dodgers trailed 2-1 in the series heading into Game 6, but they rallied to win the final three games. They scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead for good in Game 6.

Cody Bellinger hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to give the Dodgers the lead. Max Muncy added an RBI single later in the inning to make it 4-2.

Yankees' Disappointing End

The Yankees were heavy favorites to win the World Series, but they were unable to close out the Dodgers. They left 12 runners on base in Game 6, including the bases loaded with one out in the eighth inning.

The Yankees have now lost four of their last six World Series appearances. They have not won a World Series since 2009.
