San Jose moves within a point of final wild-card spot
Tyler Toffoli scored two first-period goals Saturday as the San Jose Sharks extended their winning streak to four games with a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues at SAP Center.
The Sharks closed to within one point of the Edmonton Oilers for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
San Jose (18-24-10) has outscored its opponents 14-5 during its streak. Its last defeat came on Feb. 13, a 5-2 setback against the Calgary Flames.
James Reimer made 27 saves for his second shutout of the season and the 16th of his career.
Torey Krug set up both of Toffoli’s goals.
The Blues (27-23-5), who had won three in a row, lost for the fifth time in six contests.
Jordan Binnington stopped 26 shots.
Toffoli put the Sharks on the scoreboard at 6:25 with his 17th goal of the season. He retrieved a loose puck behind the net and tucked it past Binnington.
Toffoli’s second goal gave San Jose a 2-0 advantage at 11:02. He redirected a Krug shot from the point past Binnington.
Krug has 24 assists in his past 25 games.
Alexander Barabanov scored into an empty net with 47 seconds left to seal the victory.
