Samuel Ersson to Start in Net for Flyers vs. Maple Leafs
Flyers' Rookie Set to Make Second NHL Start
The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that rookie goaltender Samuel Ersson will start in net against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night. It will be Ersson's second career NHL start.
Ersson, 23, made his NHL debut on Tuesday night against the New York Islanders, stopping 30 of 32 shots in a 4-2 win. He became the first Swedish goaltender to win his NHL debut since Henrik Lundqvist in 2005.
The Flyers are hoping that Ersson can continue his strong play against the Maple Leafs. Toronto is one of the highest-scoring teams in the NHL, averaging 3.8 goals per game.
Ersson's Impressive AHL Numbers
Ersson has been impressive in the AHL this season, posting a 12-6-2 record with a 2.53 GAA and a .922 save percentage. He has also recorded two shutouts.
Ersson's strong play in the AHL has earned him a call-up to the Flyers. He is expected to split time with Carter Hart in net for the rest of the season.
Flyers Looking for Consistency from Ersson
The Flyers are hoping that Ersson can provide them with some consistency in net. The team has struggled to find a reliable goaltender this season, with Hart and Felix Sandstrom both struggling at times.
If Ersson can continue to play well, he could help the Flyers make a push for a playoff spot. The Flyers are currently in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, but they are only three points out of a wild-card spot.
