Russian fertilizer warehouse catches fire
A large-scale fire broke out at a fertilizer warehouse in the Moscow region on Monday, September 12, 2023
Emergency services are currently on the scene, and there are no immediate reports of injuries
The fire started at around 10:30 am local time at a warehouse in the town of Voskresensk, about 60 kilometers southeast of Moscow. The warehouse is owned by the company Uralchem, one of the largest fertilizer producers in Russia.
The fire is sending thick black smoke into the sky, and local residents have been advised to stay indoors and close their windows. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and an investigation is underway.
Fertilizer warehouses are often at risk of fire due to the presence of flammable materials. In 2021, a fire at a fertilizer plant in Texas caused extensive damage and forced the evacuation of nearby residents.
The fire at the Uralchem warehouse is a reminder of the importance of safety precautions at industrial facilities. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
