Rublev loses to Cerundolo in the second round of the Masters in Paris


The Russian tennis player was defeated by the Argentine in three sets


Andrey Rublev, the fifth seed, lost to Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina 6-4, 3-6, 5-7 in the second round of the Paris Masters on Wednesday.


Rublev, who won the title in 2020, was broken once in each of the first two sets, while Cerundolo saved all five break points he faced.


In the third set, Rublev broke Cerundolo in the first game, but the Argentine broke back immediately and then held serve to take a 2-1 lead.


Rublev broke back in the sixth game, but Cerundolo broke again in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead.


Rublev saved two match points in the ninth game, but Cerundolo served out the match in the 10th game.


Cerundolo will face Karen Khachanov of Russia in the third round.
