Rockets GM Rafael Stone: 'He's Going To Play Right Away'

Rockets General Manager Rafael Stone spoke to the media on Tuesday and discussed the team's plans for rookie forward Reed Sheppard.

Stone said that Sheppard is expected to play a significant role for the Rockets this season.

“He’s a talented player who we think can help us right away,” Stone said. “He’s a good shooter, he can handle the ball, and he’s a good defender. We’re excited to see what he can do.”

Sheppard was drafted by the Rockets with the 42nd overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He averaged 16.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in his lone season at Villanova.

Sheppard is expected to compete for a starting role at small forward. He will likely be asked to provide scoring and defense for the Rockets, who finished with the worst record in the NBA last season.

Stone said that he is confident that Sheppard can make an immediate impact on the Rockets.

“He’s a hard worker and he’s eager to learn,” Stone said. “He’s going to be a good player for us.”
