Red Bulls Provide First Shock of the Playoffs: "We Just Have to Believe"
MLS Season Continues in Playoffs
The 2023 MLS Cup playoffs are underway, and the New York Red Bulls have already provided the first shock of the tournament. On Monday night, the Red Bulls upset FC Cincinnati 2-1 in the first leg of their Eastern Conference semifinal matchup. The Red Bulls entered the match as underdogs, but they played with determination and heart and ultimately emerged victorious.
Cincinnati Struggles at Home
FC Cincinnati had the advantage of playing at home, but they were unable to capitalize on it. The Red Bulls took the lead in the 20th minute when Lewis Morgan scored a stunning goal from outside the box. Cincinnati equalized through Brandon Vazquez in the 35th minute, but the home side was unable to find a winner in the second half.
The Red Bulls then regained the lead in the 75th minute when Daniel Royer scored from close range. Cincinnati pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages of the match, but the Red Bulls held on for a famous victory.
Red Bulls Belief and Determination
After the match, Red Bulls captain Aaron Long spoke about the team's belief and determination. Long said: "We just have to believe. We’ve been through a tough time. We are all just digging deep and giving everything we can."
