Portugal's Porto Thrashes Aves To Stay On The Heels Of Liga Nos Leading Pack

Portuguese Primeira Liga Champions Porto Defeated Aves 5-1 On Friday

FC Porto boosted their title hopes with a 5-1 home thrashing of relegation-battling Aves in the Primeira Liga on Friday.

The victory moved Porto to within three points of leaders Benfica, who host Portimonense on Saturday.

Taremi struck twice for Porto, while goals from Fabio Vieira, Luis Diaz and Evanilson completed the rout.

Aves, who are second-bottom of the table, grabbed a consolation goal through Welinton in the second half.

Porto dominated from the start and took the lead in the 12th minute when Taremi headed in a cross from Otavio.

Vieira doubled the lead just five minutes later with a low shot from the edge of the area.

Diaz made it 3-0 in the 30th minute with a close-range finish after a cross from Taremi.

Taremi added his second of the night in the 39th minute with a powerful shot from outside the area.

Aves pulled a goal back through Welinton in the 55th minute, but Evanilson restored Porto's four-goal lead just two minutes later.

The victory was Porto's fourth in a row in the league and extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches.

Aves, meanwhile, have now lost four of their last five matches and are in danger of being relegated to the second division.
