Ottawa Senators Make History in NHL Draft

Sens Select Wright First Overall for First Time Since 1992

Ottawa Selects Stutzle, Boucher, Svozil, and Ostapchuk in First Round

The Ottawa Senators made history on Thursday night, selecting Shane Wright first overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. It is the first time the Senators have selected first overall since 1992 when they chose Alexei Yashin.

Wright is a highly touted prospect who is considered one of the best players in the draft. He is a skilled centerman who has been compared to Sidney Crosby. Wright had 94 points in 63 games with the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League last season.

The Senators also had a successful first round, selecting Tim Stutzle, Jake Boucher, David Svozil, and Tyler Ostapchuk. Stutzle is a skilled winger who had 56 points in 52 games with the Barrie Colts of the OHL last season. Boucher is a physical defenseman who had 45 points in 68 games with the Ottawa 67's of the OHL last season. Svozil is a mobile defenseman who had 52 points in 60 games with the Regina Pats of the WHL last season. Ostapchuk is a big, physical defenseman who had 26 points in 65 games with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL last season.

The Senators are hoping that Wright and the other players they selected in the first round can help them turn things around next season. The Senators have not made the playoffs since 2017 and have struggled in recent years.
