October 30, 2024 Holiday Announcement
Executive Order No. 19, s. 2024
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Proclamation No. 383 declaring October 30, 2024 as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of the 126th Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio's Birthday.
Historical Background
Andres Bonifacio, also known as the "Father of the Philippine Revolution", was born on November 30, 1863 in Tondo, Manila. He established the Katipunan, a secret organization that fought for the country's independence from Spanish rule. Bonifacio led the Katipunan until his execution by the Spanish authorities in 1897.
In recognition of Bonifacio's contributions to the Philippine Revolution, the Philippine government declared November 30 as a national holiday in his honor. The date was later changed to October 30, 2024 through Proclamation No. 383.
Observance of the Holiday
On October 30, 2024, government offices, schools, and most businesses will be closed. Filipinos are encouraged to participate in activities commemorating Bonifacio's birthday, such as attending parades, visiting historical sites, and learning more about his life and legacy.
Importance of the Holiday
The observance of Bonifacio Day is an important opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by our ancestors in fighting for our freedom. It is also a reminder of the values of unity, courage, and patriotism that Bonifacio embodied.
