Nets' Trendon Watford: Won't play Wednesday

Watford will be ineligible to play because he did not sign a 10-day deal

Missed the game against the Los Angeles Lakers due to an illness

The Brooklyn Nets will be without forward Trendon Watford when they host the Boston Celtics on Wednesday. Watford signed a 10-day contract with the Nets on Sunday but is ineligible to play until Thursday because he did not sign the deal before Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The 21-year-old missed Tuesday’s game due to an illness, but he is expected to be available to play when the Nets host the Celtics. Watford has averaged 10.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in 27 games with the Portland Trail Blazers this season. He was waived by the Trail Blazers on Feb. 9. The Nets are 34-24 this season and are currently in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics are 36-23 this season and are currently in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Nets are hoping that Watford can provide them with some much-needed depth in the frontcourt. The Nets have been without Kevin Durant since Jan. 15 due to a sprained MCL. Durant is expected to miss at least another month. The Nets are also without Ben Simmons, who has not played this season due to a back injury. Simmons is expected to make his Nets debut sometime in March. The Nets are hoping that the addition of Watford can help them make a run at the playoffs. The Nets are currently 3.5 games behind the sixth-place Philadelphia 76ers. The Nets have 24 games remaining in the regular season.
