Lisa Kudrow Remembers Late Friends Mom Teri Garr as a 'Comedic Acting Genius' Who Had a 'Huge Influence on Me' (Exclusive)

Kudrow and Garr starred together in the iconic sitcom 'Friends'

Kudrow says Garr had a 'huge influence' on her comedic style

Lisa Kudrow is remembering her late "Friends" mom, Teri Garr, as a "comedic acting genius" who had a "huge influence" on her. Garr, who died in December at the age of 77, played Phoebe's birth mother, Phoebe Abbott, on the hit sitcom. Kudrow said that Garr was "so funny and so talented" and that she "learned so much" from her. "She was a comedic acting genius," Kudrow told TooFab in an exclusive interview. "She had such a great sense of timing and she could make anything funny. I learned so much from her about how to be funny and how to deliver a joke." Kudrow said that Garr also had a "huge influence" on her own comedic style. "I think I got my sense of humor from her," Kudrow said. "She was always so quick-witted and she could always find the funny in any situation. I think that's something that I've always tried to do in my own work." Kudrow said that she was "so grateful" to have had the opportunity to work with Garr. "She was a wonderful actress and a wonderful person," Kudrow said. "I'm so sad that she's gone, but I'm so grateful for the time that I got to spend with her." Garr was a veteran actress who starred in a number of films and television shows throughout her career. She was perhaps best known for her roles in "Tootsie," "Mr. Mom," and "The Black Stallion." In addition to her work on "Friends," Garr also appeared on such shows as "Cheers," "Seinfeld," and "Curb Your Enthusiasm." Garr was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999 and she retired from acting in 2007. She passed away on December 2, 2022.
