Siegemund defeats Fernandez in straight sets

Laura Siegemund of Germany defeated Leylah Annie Fernandez of Canada 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the Jiangxi Open on Tuesday.

Siegemund, who is ranked 57th in the world, broke Fernandez's serve three times in the first set and twice in the second set.

Fernandez, who is ranked 19th in the world, had her chances in the match, but she was unable to convert her break points.

Siegemund will face Xiyu Wang of China in the second round.

Wang, who is ranked 100th in the world, defeated Rebecca Marino of Canada 6-3, 6-2 in the first round.

Siegemund has a 2-1 head-to-head record against Wang.

In other results from the Jiangxi Open, Magda Linette of Poland defeated Wang Xinyu of China 6-3, 6-4.

Zhu Lin of China defeated Nao Hibino of Japan 6-3, 6-2.

Zhang Shuai of China defeated Katarzyna Kawa of Poland 6-3, 6-2.
