Interstate 74 has reopened after being closed for several hours due to field fires near St. Joseph and Fithian, Illinois. The fires, which started on Tuesday afternoon, burned approximately 1,000 acres and forced the evacuation of several homes.
Firefighters Battle Blaze, Protect Structures
Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the scene and worked throughout the night to contain the blaze. The fire was fueled by strong winds and dry conditions, but firefighters were able to keep it from spreading to any structures.
Evacuations Lifted, Residents Return Home
