AZ Alkmaar assistant coach explains Sunday's defeat to FC Den Bosch

Farioli was disappointed with his team's performance in the 4-1 loss to the second-tier side

AZ Alkmaar assistant coach Marino Farioli says his team's performance in the 4-1 loss to FC Den Bosch in the KNVB Cup on Sunday was disappointing.

AZ had taken an early lead through Vangelis Pavlidis, but FC Den Bosch scored four unanswered goals to secure a famous victory.

Farioli said his team did not play with enough intensity or determination and that they made too many mistakes.

"We didn't play well today," Farioli said. "We didn't have enough intensity, we didn't make enough tackles, and we didn't create enough chances. We made too many mistakes and we were punished for it."

Farioli said his team needs to learn from their mistakes and improve their performance in the coming weeks.

"We need to be more aggressive and more determined," Farioli said. "We need to make more tackles and we need to create more chances. We need to learn from our mistakes and we need to improve our performance in the coming weeks."

AZ will have a chance to bounce back from their defeat to FC Den Bosch when they take on Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie on Friday.
