Bill Self reflects on Arkansas game ahead of Washburn exhibition
Kansas Jayhawks head coach Bill Self met with the media on Monday to discuss the team's upcoming exhibition game against Washburn.
Self said he was pleased with his team's effort in the win over Arkansas, but he also said there are some areas that need to be improved.
"I thought we played hard and competed," Self said. "But we made some mistakes that we need to clean up."
One of the areas that Self said needs to be improved is rebounding. The Jayhawks were outrebounded by Arkansas 40-30, and Self said that is something that needs to be addressed.
"We need to be better on the boards," Self said. "We're not going to win many games if we're getting outrebounded like that. We need to be more physical and get our hands on more rebounds."
Another area that Self said needs to be improved is free throw shooting. The Jayhawks made just 60% of their free throws against Arkansas, and Self said that is not good enough.
"We need to be better at the free throw line," Self said. "We missed some big free throws in the Arkansas game. We need to be able to make those free throws when they count."
Despite the areas that need to be improved, Self said he is confident in his team's ability to be successful this season.
"I think we have a chance to be a really good team," Self said. "We have a lot of talent and experience. We just need to continue to improve and get better every day."
The Jayhawks will host Washburn in an exhibition game on Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN+
