Arne Slot suggests he's about to give Liverpool player just his second start of the season vs Brighton
Liverpool loanee Sepp van den Berg is in line to make just his second Premier League start of the season for Brighton and Hove Albion against his parent club on Saturday.
The]Dutch defender has been restricted to just four substitute appearances in the top flight since joining the Seagulls on a season-long loan in the summer.
But the 20-year-old is likely to be handed a rare opportunity to shine at the Amex Stadium this weekend.
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is without a number of key defenders due to injury.
He confirmed on Thursday that Van den Berg is in contention to start alongside Lewis Dunk at the heart of his backline.
"Sepp has played only one game in the Premier League this season, but I think he played very well," De Zerbi told reporters.
"He's a good player, he's a young player, but he has good quality and he can play in the starting XI."
Van den Berg is highly-rated by Liverpool and is seen as one for the future at Anfield.
He made his debut for the Reds in the Carabao Cup in 2019 and has featured in the FA Cup and Champions League.
But the Dutchman is yet to make a Premier League appearance for Liverpool.
A start against his parent club on Saturday would be a big opportunity for Van den Berg to show what he can do.
Brighton are currently ninth in the Premier League table and have won their last three games.
Liverpool are sixth and will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Arsenal last weekend.
The match between Brighton and Liverpool is scheduled to kick-off at 3pm on Saturday.
