Alex Verdugo's Insane Catch

A highlight-reel grab in center field

In a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, Boston Red Sox center fielder Alex Verdugo made an incredible catch that has been making the rounds on social media.

With two outs in the top of the ninth inning and the Red Sox clinging to a 3-2 lead, Daulton Varsho hit a deep fly ball to center field.

Verdugo's amazing grab

Verdugo, 26, raced back to the warning track and leaped high into the air, extending his glove over the top of the wall to make the catch.

The catch preserved the Red Sox's win and helped them move into a tie for first place in the American League East.

It was a truly remarkable play by Verdugo, who has quickly become one of the best defensive outfielders in baseball.

The catch was so impressive that it even drew praise from opposing manager Torey Lovullo.

"That was an unbelievable catch," Lovullo said. "I don't know how he did it."

Verdugo's catch is just the latest example of his defensive prowess.

In 2021, he won a Gold Glove Award for his outstanding play in center field.

He is also a two-time Fielding Bible Award winner.

Verdugo's defensive skills are a major asset to the Red Sox, and he is one of the main reasons why they are one of the best teams in baseball.
